New Improvements

The predecessors of the Defiants 4x4s did have low and high gears. The low gear was for power and climbing, the high gear for speed. However, the Defiants also have a nifty little mechanism that allows for automatic free wheeling fun once the vehicle is going down an incline. So once the truck has reached the peak of the obstacle and begins its descent the mechanism disengages and the truck goes into free wheel mode.

There is a large array of different styles of vehicle designs ranging from the back woods hillbilly farm truck to full-on professional trophy trucks. Each truck has headlights to light up the trail ahead.

The Redwood Adventures folks have created a revolutionary track system for their playsets. Their Flex Terrain system is a two-sided section of rugged trails that can be bent or twisted to give your trucks a greater challenge. These segments can also be attached to the larger playsets. And with names like “Badlands Scramble” and “Sinkhole Control” the playsets offer up some fun off-road challenges. The “Maximum Mayhem” set takes full advantage of the free wheeling mode by adding a big air jump at the end of a tall ramp.

On a more personal note: I was contracted to shoot photos of the trucks and what a fun time that was! For several days my photo gear was covered in dirt and muck shooting these trucks. My daughter and I even connected several of the playsets together to make a track over twelve feet in length! I must admit, I usually return product as clean as they were received, but these trucks feel at home in the dirt and it only seemed right to let them have their fun (and I enjoyed it a little too)!
